10/15/2017 (Iraq) - Media sources report that the Bashmagh border crossing has been closed on Sunday, 15 October, due to the independence referendum in Iraq's Kurdish region last month. The border crossing serves as a key border crossing from Iraq into Iran with up to 1,000 trucks crossing per day. The Iranian government has reportedly closed the border for security reasons and from a request from the Iraqi government.

Clients in affected areas are advised to anticipate an increased security presence and subsequent transport disruptions. Travellers should avoid the vicinity of all gathering crowds and political protests due to the risk of incidental violence and heavy-handed police response. Monitor local media sources for related updates.
