Hundreds March in Sydney ahead of Papua New Guinea's Center Closure

10/15/2017 (Australia) - Media sources report on Sunday, 15 October, that hundreds of protesters marched through Sydney in support of a resettlement program for asylum seekers. An asylum processing center, which is based on Manus Island in Papua New Guinea (PNG) is set to close on 31 October, resulting in all asylum seekers who have had their refugee applications rejected to be settled on PNG.

Clients in country are advised to avoid the vicinity of any large political gatherings in order to limit the chances of being affected by incidental violence and opportunistic crime. Travellers should monitor local media sources for any further information and heed any directives issued by the authorities.
