VBIED Blast Reported in Zoobe Area, Mogadishu

10/14/2017 (Somalia) - Emerging media sources indicate that a large vehicle-borne improvised explosive device (VBIED) blast has occurred on Saturday, 14 October in the Zoobe Area of Mogadishu. Reports indicate that at least ten people have killed and the blast was in the vicinity of the headquarters of the Criminal Investigation Department (CID). The office has been targeted before by Al-Shabab militants in July 2016 with two VBIEDs leaving several killed and injured.

Travellers are reminded that Somalia is considered an extreme risk operational environment and, as such, all travel should be undertaken with the strictest possible risk management protocols in place. Clients should ensure that personnel and site security measures are continuously reviewed so as to remain commensurate to the prevailing local threat environment. All operationally-critical movement outside of secure compounds should be conducted in coordination with a reputable security provider and local authorities.
