Three Killed After Protesters Storm Police Station in Bondo

10/13/2017 (Kenya) - Media sources report that at least three people have been killed and two others injured on Friday, 13 October, when protesters stormed a police station in Bondo, Siaya County. Police officials confirmed that anti-Independent Electoral and Boundaries (IEBC) protesters stormed a police station whilst carrying weapons. Bondo has seen increased tension as it is the home town of National Super Alliance (Nasa) leader Raila Odinga.

Travellers should exercise a heightened level of situational awareness in Kenya at this time due to the elevated tensions around the election rerun. Travellers should monitor local media sources to remain apprised of any planned or spontaneous demonstrations in their particular area of operations. All demonstrations and political gatherings should be avoided due to the risk of exposure to potential crowd disturbances and incidental violence as well as security forces crowd dispersal operations.
