10/13/2017 (Syria) - According to media sources, at least 50 displaced Syrians have been killed as well as wounding an unknown number, by a triple Islamic State (IS) militant vehicle born improvised explosive device on Thursday, 12 October. It is understood the attack took place in northeast Syria in the province of Hasakeh where Syrians displaced from Deir Ezzor province usually gather.

The incident illustrates that the threat of exposure to conflict-related violence in Syria remains extreme, even areas well behind established front lines and areas with little precedent of militant activity. All travel outside of secure compounds should be undertaken on an operationally-critical basis only and in coordination with local authorities and trusted security providers. Those in Syria should continually review crisis management plans and security procedures to ensure they remain commensurate with the current local threat environment.
