10/13/2017 (United States) - Media sources report that the death toll from Northern California fires has risen to 31 on Friday, 13 October, with several hundred injured and at least 400 people still missing. Officials have confirmed that 21 wildfires spanning more than 777 square kilometers (300 square miles) were being fought by thousands of firefighters. Authorities have confirmed that ten percent of the fires have been contained and that new evacuation orders have issued for areas that have been affected. Santa Rose is the hardest hit area with up to 2,834 houses destroyed from the fire with high winds spreading fires across the state. In total, at least 30 air tankers, nearly 75 helicopters, and 550 fire engines have been deployed to combat the fires.

Those in northern California are advised to monitor local media sources for further updates on the fires and firefighting operations should heed any directives issued by local authorities. Travellers should anticipate significant fire-related disruption in the Santa Rosa and Napa Valley areas in the medium term and should factor this in to journey plans, differing non-essential travel to fire-affected areas and planning alternative routes to avoid the region where possible.
