Ongoing Police Operations in Narayanganj Following Fatal Knife Attack

10/13/2017 (Bangladesh) - Local media reports indicate that two people were killed on the evening of Thursday, 12 October, when a group attacked a rickshaw garage in Narayanganj. The two men were reportedly killed after being attacked with bladed weapons during the assault at around 2100hrs (1500 UTC). The incident is currently believed to be linked to a financial dispute and police have launched an operation to apprehend the suspected attackers.
Those in Narayanganj are advised to monitor local media sources for further updates on the incident and associated police operations. Due to the threat from criminal activity, those in Bangladesh are advised to maintain a heightened level of situational awareness and avoid non-essential travel in urban areas after dark. Travellers should limit the amount of cash and valuables carried on their person and avoid displays of relative wealth. Travellers should exercise particular caution if utilising public transport, including taxis and rickshaws, as this carries an elevated risk of criminal activity. Any suspicious activity should be immediately reported to police.
