Reports of Protest in Woliso, Oromia region

10/12/2017 (Ethiopia) - According to local media sources on Thursday, 12 October, there is an ongoing anti-government protest in the Oromia region. It is understood that several hundred people are marching through the streets of the town of Woliso, which have remained peaceful thus far, in contrast to yesterday when a similar protest claimed eight lives whiles 30 others sustained injuries.

Those in Ethiopia are advised to monitor local media sources to remain apprised of any demonstrations in their particular area of operations, particularly in the Oromia region. Travellers should heed any directives issued by security forces and avoid any activity which may be seen as being in contravention of the conditions of the state of emergency. Travellers are further advised to minimise time spent in the vicinity of all demonstrations and political gatherings in Ethiopia due to the risk of exposure to potential crowd disturbances, incidental violence and security forces crowd control operations.
