Germany to Continue Passport Controls Along Borders for Additional Six Months

10/12/2017 (Germany) - Media sources report that the German government has extended passport controls along its borders on Thursday, 12 October, for an additional six months starting in November. The Interior Minister confirmed that controls would continue along the German-Austria border and on flights coming from Greece. The reason behind the continued controls is due to high migration and heightened security across Europe due to terrorism. The German government introduced controls along the borders two years ago after thousands of migrants passed through routes into Europe.

Clients are advised to anticipate potential localised disruption from the additional security measures and allow extra time to transit passport control at airports, seaports and border crossings. Monitor local media or contact your travel provider for more information. Furthermore, all travellers should maintain a heightened level of vigilance and immediately report any suspicious items or activity to security forces.
