10/12/2017 (Kyrgyz Republic) - According to an update by the Foreign and Commonwealth Office (FCO) on Thursday, 12 October, a presidential election is scheduled to take place on Sunday, 15 October and may lead to localised unrest. The candidates include Sooronbai Jeenbekev, who is seen as the favourite, and Omurbek Babanov, one of the country's richest men. Protests are more likely in the ethnically-mixed south, particularly after the election.

Personnel in the country should monitor the local media and Drum Cussac Alerts for flashpoints and developments on unrest. While disturbances are typically not directed at foreign nationals, protests may disrupt travel and commercial operations, and there is a risk of exposure to incidental violence and crime.
