10/12/2017 (Zimbabwe) - Social media sources indicate that police officers have launched an operation to clear illegal vendors on Thursday, 12 October on Robert Mugabe Road in Harare. Reports indicate that there is a large police presence throughout the city with a water cannon being present on Robert Mugabe Road.
Prior to and during their deployment, clients should closely monitor local and international media sources for any developments that may have an impact on the security situation in-country. Demonstrations in Zimbabwe are frequently met with an aggressive security forces response involving the use of batons, tear gas and water cannon. Travellers are therefore advised to avoid all demonstrations or political gatherings due to the high risk of exposure to crowd disturbances, incidental violence, opportunistic crime and police activity.
