10/12/2017 (Vietnam) - Media sources report on Thursday, October 12, that floods have killed at least 37 people after heavy rains have swept through northern and central provinces. Reports indicate that landslides have been reported across the provinces with at least 21 people injured. Vietnam's disaster prevention agency has reported that 17,000 households have been evacuated, while nearly 18,000 other houses have been submerged or damaged by the floods.

Those in central Vietnam are advised to monitor local media sources for further weather-related updates and should review contingency measures so as to minimise the impact on business continuity. Travellers in the region should anticipate travel disruption in the medium term due to damaged transport infrastructure and should contact their travel provider prior to departure to ascertain the status of their journeys. Those intending to conduct overland travel in the coming days are advised to anticipate possible road blockages and closures and should plan alternative routes where possible. Drivers should exercise a heightened degree of caution in flood-affected areas due to likely hazardous conditions caused by flooding and debris and heed any directives issued by local authorities.
