10/12/2017 (Dominican Republic) - According to local media sources on Wednesday, 11 October, the Dominican Medical Association has begun strike to protest the government's failure to implement agreed labour reforms. Unionised Doctors nationwide will reportedly strike 48 hours, though the industrial action may continue if their demands are not met. Emergency departments and two military hospitals will be accessible to the public during the industrial action.

Personnel in country are advised that access to medical assistance may be limited during strike. Travellers are advised to review their contingency plans in light of the industrial action and ensure that alternative medical provisions are in place during their time in country. Clients are further advised to avoid the vicinity of any associate protests in order to limit exposure to incidental violence and heavy-handed police response. Those operating within affected areas are advised to closely monitor strike-related developments through local media.
