10/11/2017 (Afghanistan) - According to local news reports on Wednesday, 11 October, several Taliban militants and insurgents affiliated with the Islamic State Group (IS) have been killed in airstrikes carried out in eastern Nangarhar province. In a statement, an army spokesman said that the airstrikes were carried out in the Bati Kot and Deh Bala districts on Tuesday, 10 October. The statement added that one Taliban militant was killed and another injured in an airstrike in the Barekab area of Bati Kot and that at least eleven IS militants were killed in an airstrike in the Deh Bala district. The airstrikes were carried out by US forces in conjunction with Afghan security forces in an ongoing counter-terrorism operation in the region.

Due to the ongoing security operations, travel in Nangarhar province should be limited to operationally-critical deployments. Those in the province are advised to operate under the strictest possible security risk management measures in coordination with local authorities and a trusted security provider. Security procedures should be regularly reviewed and updated so as to remain commensurate to the evolving local threat environment.
