Vessel Attacked off Bayelsa State; Caution Advised

10/11/2017 (Nigeria) - According to sources operating from the region, a currently unidentified vessel was attacked as she was operating in Agbara field off Bayelsa State at 0900hrs (UTC) on Wednesday, 11 October. The location of the attack was given as 03:56N - 006:23E. Further information is awaited.

Vessel operators should avoid the area in the immediate term where practical. Those operating in Nigeria's maritime domain are advised to continue to employ security measures commensurate to mitigating risks in a high threat maritime environment. The threat from piracy applies to all the creeks and waterways within Nigeria. The engagement of maritime security officers is common. Vessels are advised to maintain anti-piracy watches and exercise vigilance at all times, especially during the late night or early morning hours when berthed at anchorages or ports as well as on local/regional voyages.
