10/11/2017 (Mozambique) - According to local media sources on Wednesday, 11 October, police have reportedly arrested 52 people during a series of coordinated raids across Cabo Delgado province. It is indicated those arrested are suspected of involvement in the coordinated attacks against two police stations in Mocimboa de Praia which left 16 people dead. Police have stated that local or homegrown extremist elements were responsible for the attack and have dismissed any claims that the Al-Shabaab or Boko Haram groups were involved.

Personnel should monitor local media sources for further updates on the incident and associated security operations and heed any directives issued by security forces and local authorities. Travellers are advised that militant groups are known to operate in the aforementioned area and should subject all operations to a thorough location-specific threat assessment and should ensure that risk mitigation measures commensurate to the local security environment are in place.
