Level Three Alert Issued after Shinmoe Volcano Erupts in Kyushu Region

10/11/2017 (Japan) - According to local media sources on Wednesday, 11 October, Shinmoe, a volcano in the southwestern Kyushu region, has erupted following a period of volcanic and seismic activity. The Japan Meterological Agency has raided the alert level to 3 on a scale of 5. The eruption is the first in six years.

Those in the Kyushu region are advised to monitor local media sources for further updates on the volcanic activity and to remain apprised of any local government advisories. Travellers should heed any directives issued by local authorities, including mandatory evacuation orders.
