Taliban Attack Security Checkpoint in Shahjoy District, Zabul Province, Five Killed

09/21/2017 (Afghanistan) - Media reports indicate that at least five police officers were killed on the evening of Wednesday, 20 September, when suspected Taliban militants attacked a security checkpoint in the Shahjoy district of Zabul province. At least two other police officers are reported to have been injured in the attack with five others escaping unharmed. Security forces were later able to recapture the checkpoint from the militants and recover weapons seized during the attack.
Those in Zabul province are advised to monitor local media sources for further updates on the incident and any associated security operations. Due to the continued high risk of Taliban attacks and the unstable security situation, operations in Zabul province should only be undertaken with the strictest possible security risk management procedures in place. Travellers should use a vetted security provider that offers close protection and emergency response services and closely liaise with local security forces.
