09/21/2017 (India) - Local media reports indicate that at least three people were killed on Thursday, 21 September, when a grenade was thrown at a bus stop in the Tral area of Jammu and Kashmir's Pulwama district. At least 20 other people are reported to have been injured in the attack which occurred as a regional politician was visiting the area. Most of those injured in the attack are reported to be security personnel but both fatalities are believed to have been civilians waiting at the bus stop. Unconfirmed reports stated that gunfire was heard immediately after the explosion but it is currently unclear whether this was from the attacker or security forces.

Those in the Pulwama district are advised to avoid the Tral area in the immediate term due to the ongoing emergency response operations. Travellers should be aware of the potential for security operations and demonstrations in Tral and other areas in the medium term linked to the incident. Travellers should exercise a heightened level of caution in the medium term and monitor local media sources for further updates on the incident. Travellers are advised to avoid all demonstrations and political gatherings in Jammu and Kashmir state due to the risk of exposure to potential crowd disturbances and incidental violence and should minimise time spent in the vicinity of security forces patrols and positions as these may be targeted in militant attacks. Travellers should heed all directives issued by security forces and local authorities and observe any extraordinary security measures that may be in place, including curfews.
