09/21/2017 (Togo) - According to reports from local media outlets, at least one person was killed as demonstrators clashed with security forces in Mango, in the northern Savanes Region. Security personnel reportedly used live ammunition and tear gas in an attempt to disperse an assembled crowd of anti-government protesters. Violent unrest was also reported in Bafilo, though it is unclear if there were any resultant casualties, whilst protests in Lome remained largely peaceful.

Those in Togo should monitor local media sources for further updates on the demonstrations, which are likely to persist in the short to medium term, and to remain apprised of any further protests or security operations in their area. Travellers should avoid all demonstrations and political gatherings in Togo due to the risk of exposure to potential crowd disturbances, incidental violence and police crowd dispersal operations.
