Opposition to Extend Protest Movement, Scheduling New Strikes and March

09/21/2017 (Guinea) - According to reports from local media sources on Thursday, 21 September, the opposition political movement Union of Democratic Forces of Guinea (UFDG) are due to extend their protest campaign beyond the "ville mort" (dead city) general strike in Conakry on Thursday, and have scheduled a further strike intended to take effect on 28 September. As part of the action on 28 September, opposition supporters will march to the Stade du 28 Septembre venue in the city centre.

Those in Guinea are advised to monitor local media sources for further updates on the 'ville morte' and to remain apprised of any associated disruption in their particular area of operations. Travellers are advised to avoid all demonstrations and political gatherings in Guinea due to the risk of exposure to potential crowd disturbances and incidental violence.
