09/20/2017 (Thailand) - Local media reports on Wednesday, 20 September, indicate that the country's Meteorological Department has warned of possible flash flooding in Bangkok over the next few days due to forecast heavy rains. A number of districts in the capital, including Phra Khanong, were hit by flash floods on Wednesday but waters drained later in the afternoon. Other areas in the northeastern, eastern and southern regions of the country are also expected to see heavy rains in the coming days. The warnings come as Kalasin, Phitsanulok and Satun provinces continued recovery efforts following flooding from the passage of Tropical Depression Doksuri over the weekend. There are also concerns regarding high water levels in the Yom River and potential flooding in areas along the banks of the river in the provinces of Sukhothai, Phitsanulok and Pichit.

Those in the Bangkok and other flood-affected regions are advised to monitor local media sources for further weather-related updates and review contingency plans to minimise the impact on business continuity. Travellers should exercise a heightened degree of caution due to the possible flooding and likely hazardous conditions. Travellers are further advised to heed any directives issued by local authorities. Those intending to travel in the region in the immediate to medium term should be aware of possible disruption to transport links, accounting for this in itineraries where possible.
