09/20/2017 (India) - Local media sources report that Border Security Guard (BSG) officers have shot and killed two Pakistani nationals on Wednesday, 20 September, in Ajnala which is 24km (15 miles) north of Amritsar, Punjab. Reports indicate that the incident occurred at Border out Post (BoP) Shahpur. When the officers approached the two Pakistani nationals, they refused to surrender and were shot. The officers recovered a large amount of narcotics and a rifle during the incident.

Those in Punjab are advised to minimise time spent in the vicinity of the border with Pakistan due to the military operations in the area. Travellers should liaise with local officials and trusted security providers to avoid areas deemed unstable or with active security operations. Contingency measures should be continually reviewed and updated accordingly so as to remain commensurate to local threat environment.
