09/20/2017 (Philippines) - According to a notice from the UK Foreign and Commonwealth Office (FCO), a national day of protest has been called by President Duterte on Thursday, 21 September, the 45th anniversary of the declaration of Martial law. Public school students and government workers have reportedly been given the day off and are encouraged to participate in anti-government protests. It is indicated that the Movement Against Tyranny opposition group is using the event as to stage demonstrations at the Quirino Grandstand in Manila to condemn killings and abuses related to the administration's war on drugs. Further protests in other urban centres are expected as well.

Those in Manila and other urban centres are advised to minimise time spent in the vicinity of all demonstrations and political gatherings due to the risk of exposure to potential crowd disturbances and incidental violence, as well as heavy-handed police response. Monitor local media reports for updates regarding protests and associated travel disruption.
