09/19/2017 (Iraq) - Media reports indicate that at least three people were killed and 34 others injured on Tuesday, 19 September, in a coordinated suicide bomb attack in the the Baiji district of the Saladin governorate. According to police, two suicide bombers blew themselves up at the restaurant in the town of Hajjaj frequented by members of the Hashed al-Shaabi, a Shiite militia group fighting Islamic State (IS) militants in the region. A third suicide bomber is reported to have been shot dead by security forces before reaching the restaurant. No group has yet claimed responsibility for the attack.

Those in the Baiji district are advised to avoid the Hajjaj area in the immediate term due to the ongoing emergency response operations and risk of secondary attacks. Travellers should monitor local media sources for further updates on the incident. Due to the continuing threat from militant activity, travel north of Baghdad should be coordinated with security forces following a localised threat assessment and undertaken with strict security risk management measures in place, including the use of armed security escorts.
