09/19/2017 (Israel) - Media reports indicate that Israeli forces shot down a suspected unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) on Tuesday, 19 September, after the unidentified aircraft crossed into the territory. The UAV was reportedly targeted with a Patriot surface-to-air missile (SAM) after crossing into Israeli territory from Syria. According to Lebanese sources, an Israeli Air Force fighter aircraft carried out an airstrike on an unspecified Hezbollah target on the border between Lebanon and Syria following the UAV incident but it is currently unclear whether the strike was in direct response to the airspace incursion. Although Israel has not become directly involved in Syria's civil war, it has conducted retaliatory airstrikes following incidents of conflict-spillover, mainly mortar rounds fired into Israeli-controlled territory from Syria. .

Those in the Golan Heights are advised to monitor local media sources for further updates on the incident and heed any directives issued by local authorities and security forces. Travellers should minimise non-essential movement in areas along the border with Syria due to the risk of conflict-spillover.
