09/19/2017 (Yemen) - Media reports indicate that at least four civilians were killed on the evening of Monday, 18 September, when rebel shelling hit the southwestern city of Taiz. The four male youths were reportedly killed in the Al-Jamaliya area of the city when a number of shells hit a residential block. The incident follows a similar artillery strike on Friday in which three children were killed. Taiz is under the control of forces loyal to President Abd Rabbuh Mansur Hadi and Saudi-led coalition forces but has come under regular attack by Houthi rebels during the ongoing conflict.

Due to the ongoing conflict and extreme risk environment, clients should reconsider all non-essential travel to Yemen at this time. Those in the country should minimise non-essential movement outside of secure compounds and only travel with maximum security precautions in place. Prior to deployment, or as part of any pre-operational decision-making, clients are advised to conduct a thorough localised risk assessment to identify any potential threats to operations and staff safety.
