09/19/2017 (Nigeria) - Media sources report on Tuesday, 19 September, that the Abia state government has eased a curfew, which was put in place after clashes between Members of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) movement and Nigerian security services. The new curfew times have been eased and will now run from 2200hrs (2100 UTC) until 0600hrs (0500 UTC).

Travellers in Abia State should review travel plans in light of the curfew and heed all directives issued by authorities. Clients are advised to avoid the vicinity of any large gatherings in order to minimise the risk of exposure to potential incidental violence and aggressive crowd dispersal measures by security personnel. Given the elevated political tensions in the area, travellers are advised to maintain a low profile and avoid discussing politically sensitive topics in public.
