09/18/2017 (Nigeria) - Local media reports indicate that at least five people were killed on the night of Sunday, 17 September, when suspected Boko Haram militants attacked a village in the Magumeri Local Government Area of Borno state. Those killed in the attack in the village of Kurmiri are reported to have included a local imam and four other residents. Unconfirmed reports from some local media outlets suggest that at least one of the attackers was arrested in the incident. The Magumeri area has seen a number of Boko Haram attacks in recent weeks, including the kidnapping of an oil exploration team in July.

Those with operationally critical requirements in Borno State and the wider northeast region should conduct a thorough localised threat assessment and ensure that all travel is undertaken in coordination with local security forces and a trusted private security provider. Security and crisis management procedures should be continually reviewed and updated so as to remain commensurate with the local threat environment.
