09/18/2017 (Cote d'Ivoire) - The UK Foreign and Commonwealth Office (FCO) issued updated travel advice on Monday, 18 September, warning travelers of ongoing demonstrations at the Universite Houphoet-Boigny in the Cocody area of Abidjan. Clashes reportedly broke out between students and security forces as police fired tear gas in an attempt to break up the demonstration. There is potential for further demonstration in the Plateau area of the city in the immediate to medium term.

Those in Abidjan are advised to avoid the area around the Universite Houphoet-Boigny in the immediate term due to the ongoing unrest and risk of further clashes between students and police. Travellers are advised to avoid all demonstrations and political gatherings in Cote d'Ivoire due to the risk of exposure to potential crowd disturbances and incidental violence as well as security forces crowd dispersal operations.
