09/18/2017 (Vietnam) - Media reports on Monday, 18 September, indicate that the number of fatalities from Typhoon Doksuri, which hit the country on Friday, have risen to at least nine with four other people missing. Around 150,000 properties across six central provinces were reportedly destroyed in the typhoon and at least 112 people injured. The storm is also reported to have caused widespread infrastructural damage with over 500,000 households remaining without power on Sunday and widespread damage to agricultural land. According to the country's disaster management agency, around 31,000 security forces personnel have since been deployed to the region to assist in recovery efforts.

Those in central Vietnam are advised to monitor local media sources for further weather related updates and should review contingency measures so as to minimise impact on business continuity. Travellers in the region should anticipate travel disruption in the medium term due to storm damaged transport infrastructure and should contact their travel provider prior to departure to ascertain the status of their journeys. Those intending to conduct overland travel in the coming days are advised to anticipate possible road blockages and closures and should plan alternative routes where possible. Drivers should exercise a heightened degree of caution in flood affected areas due to likely hazardous conditions caused by flooding and debris and heed any directives issued by local authorities.
