09/18/2017 (Palestinian Territories/ West Bank and Gaza Strip) - According to local media reports on Monday, 18 September, Israel Defense Force (IDF) soldiers have thwarted an attempted terrorist attack near Rachel's Tomb, north of Bethlehem in the West Bank. The attacker reportedly attempted to detonate an improvised explosive device (IED) in the vicinity of a security checkpoint on Sunday evening before being shot by IDF troops. No other injuries were reported during the incident. The tomb, a popular tourist attraction of religious significance, has been evacuated and closed to the public while security operations and further investigations are underway.

Clients should travel with caution in the West Bank and report any suspicious items or activity to authorities. Personnel should minimise time spent in the vicinity of security checkpoints, religious sites, and transportation hubs, as these are frequently targeted in terrorist attacks. Travellers should be aware that security operations led by the IDF often occur without warning in the West Bank and have the potential to disrupt travel arrangements.
