09/17/2017 (South Africa) - According to local media outlets, taxi drivers affiliated with the National Taxi Council (Santaco) have stated their intention to embark on strike action in the Cape Town on Monday, 18 September. The action is the result of an internal dispute within Santaco in which a faction of the group is holding the strike as part of a disagreement over the group's provincial leadership's term of office. Taxi services could be affected from as early at 0400hrs (0200 UTC).

Those in Cape Town are advised to monitor local media sources for further updates on strike-related transport disruption in their particular area of operations. Travellers should anticipate delays on major transport routes throughout the region and factor these into travel itineraries, planning alternative routes where possible. Travellers are advised to avoid all demonstrations and political gatherings in South Africa due to the risk of exposure to potential crowd disturbances, incidental violence and opportunistic crime.
