09/17/2017 (Senegal) - According to local media sources on Sunday, 17 September, demonstrations took place yesterday in major cities across the country including Dakar, Tambacounda, and Kaolack; the demonstrations were banned in the two latter cities. Hundreds of people reportedly protested against the Communaute Financiere Africaine (CFA) Franc currency and the presence of French multinationals in former French colonies. Reports indicate that similar demonstrations were held in most French-speaking countries across Africa and the Caribbean regions.

Those in the country are advised to avoid the vicinity of protests and demonstrations in order to mitigate against exposure to unruly crowd behaviour, opportunistic crime and police crowd control measures. Clients undertaking overland travel within the city are advised to review journey plans as a result of heightened security in the aforementioned areas.
