Hurricane Norma Strengthens to Category One, Moves Towards Southern Baja California

09/16/2017 (Mexico) - According to regional media outlets, Hurricane Norma, located 435km (270 miles) south of Cabo San Lucas at 2000hrs on Friday, 15 September (0300UTC Saturday, 16 September), has strengthened to category one. Norma is currently moving in a north-west direction at 4khm (2mph) and is currently sustaining winds of 121kmh (75mph) with the hurricane expected strengthen in coming days. Based on its current course, Norma is expected to bring inclement conditions to southern areas of Baja California where it will bring winds of up to 112kph (70mph) during the evening of Monday, 18 September.

Those within affected areas are advised to closely monitor weather-related developments through local media and remain alert to any emergency directives issued by authorities, including evacuations. Clients are further advised to ensure they have access to a secure location in which to shelter with stockpiles of food and clean water.
