09/16/2017 (Afghanistan) - According to media reports on Saturday, 16 September, at least five people have been killed following clashes between militant groups in eastern Nangarhar province. In a statement, the governors' spokesman said that a gunbattle erupted between groups of Talban and Islamic State (IS) fighters in the Ghulam Dag area of Charpar district late on the night of Friday, 15 September. It was confirmed that three IS fighters and three Taliban militants had been killed during the clash.
Due to the IS and Taliban presence and ongoing security operations, travel in Nangarhar province should be limited to operationally-critical deployments. Those in the province are advised to operate under the strictest possible security risk management measures in coordination with local authorities and a trusted security provider. Security procedures should be regularly reviewed and updated so as to remain commensurate to the local threat environment.
