Clashes between Groups of Security Forces Reported in Mogadishu

09/16/2017 (Somalia) - According to emerging social media reports on Saturday, 16 September, clashes between two groups of Somali National Army (SNA) soldiers has been reported in Mogadishu's Deynile district. It is currently unclear why the fighting is occurring and authorities have offered no comment on the incident. Civilians are reportedly fleeing the area as clashes are ongoing and it is unclear if the government has deployed resources to stabilise the situation.

Those within Mogadishu are advised to avoid Deynile district whilst fighting is ongoing and await clarification on the situation by authorities. Travellers are reminded that Somalia is considered an extreme risk operational environment and, as such, all travel should be undertaken with the strictest possible security risk management protocols in place.
