09/15/2017 (Sudan) - Local media sources report that fighters from the Sudan Liberation Movement (SLM) rebel group have repulsed an attack by pro-government forces in West Kordofan State on Thursday, 14 September. It is indicated that the rebel group clashed with the pro-government Rapid Support Forces (RSF) militia near Diffra. RSF forces have reportedly been carrying out missions to disarm SLM fighters in the Kordofan and Darfur states. There have reportedly been casualties on both sides, but no exact figures have been confirmed at this time.

Clients in West Kordofan State are advised to exercise extreme caution given the risk of further fighting in the area and should review contingency and evacuation plans in case of a rapid deterioration in the local security environment. Travellers should monitor local media sources and liaise with in-country contacts for further updates on the situation in their particular area of operations and heed any directives issued by authorities. Travellers are advised to exercise caution when travelling outside of Khartoum due to the high risk of violent crime and military activity. All operationally-critical travel should be conducted in coordination with a trusted security provider following a comprehensive localised threat assessment.
