09/15/2017 (Mexico) - According to reports from local media outlets on Friday, 15 September, the teachers' union Coordinadora Nacional de Trabajadores de la Educacion (CNTE) is expected to stage sporadic protest activity in Michoacan state between 15-26 September. Prompted by the union's opposition to proposed reforms to Mexico's education sector, members will begin four simultaneous protest marches on Monday, 18 September, all converging in the state capital Morelia's central district, most likely in the Morelia Centro park or nearby Plaza Valladolid. Furthermore, demonstrators intend to occupy toll booths among major highways across the state on Tuesday, 19 September.

Those in Michoacan state during the aforementioned period are advised to monitor local media reports to remain apprised of security incidents and protest activity in their particular area of operations. Travellers should avoid all demonstrations and large gatherings due to the risk of exposure to potential crowd disturbances and incidental violence as well as police crowd control operations. Transport disruption, possibly including road closures or diversions, can also be anticipated in the vicinity of protest marches. For the duration of the aforementioned period, there is an increased likelihood smaller, spontaneous gatherings and events arising.
