09/15/2017 (Turkey) - According to reports from local media outlets on Friday, 15 September, an unspecified number of people have been injured after unknown groups exchanged gunfire in the main courthouse of Kilis, capital of the eponymous province in southern Turkey approximately 9.5km (6 miles) from the border with Syria. The incident occurred at approximately 1130hrs (0830 UTC). A significant detachment from the security forces responded to the incident and secured the area and the security situation is understood to have been normalised. An unknown number of people were taken to a local hospital after suffering gunshot wounds, however there has been no official confirmation regarding numbers.

Travel to areas close to Turkey's border with Syria should be subject to a localised threat assessment and undertaken with comprehensive security measures in place. Those in the region should remain vigilant due to the elevated risk of conflict spill-over and terrorism.
