09/15/2017 (Venezuela) - According to reports from international media sources on Friday, 15 September, activists are expected to assemble at approximately 1100hrs (1500 UTC) at the Plaza Miranda in the Los Dos Caminos district of Caracas in a rally marking the International Day of Democracy. The gathering is anticipated to disperse at around 1500hrs (1900 UTC). A number of unions, activist groups and non-governmental organisations are understood to be attending the gathering. It is unclear if the gathering has been officially sanctioned, as authorities are likely to attempt to disperse illegal political assemblies.
Those in Venezuela should monitor local media sources to remain apprised of any planned or spontaneous demonstrations in their particular area of operations. Travellers should avoid the vicinity of all demonstrations and political gatherings in Venezuela due to the risk of exposure to potential crowd disturbances, incidental violence and opportunistic crime as well as aggressive police crowd dispersal operations.
