Pro-Mapuche Rights Demonstrations in Santiago

09/15/2017 (Chile) - According to emerging social media feeds on Thursday, 14 September, multiple groups for the rights of the Mapuche indigenous peoples are marching on Paseo Ahumada street, Santiago. Reports indicate that the demonstrators are protesting over anti-terrorist laws in the country and to raise the visibility of the issue of four Mapuche detainees on hunger strike.

As part of an ongoing campaign to reclaim Mapuche land as well as bringing to the fore human rights issues in the country, militant activists are staging a series of protests. Those in Santiago are advised to monitor local media sources for further updates on the incidents and protests in the region.
