U.S. Citizens

The U.S. Embassy in Port-au-Prince has set up a task force at the Embassy to assist Americans during this crisis. This office is currently receiving a high volume of phone calls. The Embassy is working to identify Americans in Haiti who need urgent assistance and to identify sources of emergency help. Americans are urged to contact the Embassy via email at ACSPaP@state.gov to request assistance

British Citizens

Canadian Citizens

Canadians in need of assistance are encouraged to make their way to the Canadian Embassy in Port-au-Prince on Delmas Road, between Delmas 75 and 71, and should bring any and all forms of Canadian identification with them.

Assistance at the Embassy is limited to basic shelter on the compound grounds, food and water, as the building itself and power and telecommunications services have been greatly affected by the earthquake.

Canadian Emergency Consular assistance:

The Operations Centre of Foreign Affairs and International Trade Canada operates 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

Safety Guidance

• Remain in a safe shelter
• Avoid damaged buildings
• Obey instructions of local authorities
• Do not use exposed flames
• Avoid downed power lines

Health Guidance

If you are injured, seek immediate medical assistance. Clean any wound or rash immediately with soap and clean water to reduce the risk of an infection. Reports indicate that medical care is limited. Therefore, you should contact your embassy to help locate medical care. Remember that you may need a tetanus shot.
