- Premium Rate Setting.
WIS analyzes the plan designs and available claims and utilization data to develop proposed premium rates.
- Plan Document Preparation.
WIS, in cooperation with insurance companies, prepares the plans (policies and certificates) for filing with regulatory authorities. It reviews marketing materials for consistency with policies and certificates. WIS works throughout this process as an advocate and liaison for the client.
- Enrollment.
WIS can receive enrollment documents in paper and/or automated data format as required by the client. WIS mails fulfillment materials within 24 hours of the time of enrollment. Participants are enrolled in a fully integrated insurance administration system. The system generates identification cards and coverage certificates using unique participant numbers. Participants are enrolled in designated subgroups to track utilization patterns and costs.
- Customer Service.
The customer is defined in three different ways. The customer can be the insured, a client, or the providers who provide covered services to the insureds. WIS provides customer service via a toll free call from 9am - 6pm EST. All callers can talk with a customer service representative within an average of 30 seconds after transfer by the receptionist. Customer service representatives are trained to handle all types of customer service calls. Emergency assistance after hours is available.
- Claims Administration, Medical Claims Processing.
All claims are processed using state of the art software. The WIS system offers features that provide cost savings, increased accuracy, and superior efficiency. Each claim is subject to many benefit edits that allow for consistent handling with few errors. All claims are compared with previous claims and screened for duplication of benefits. Individual Explanations of Benefits (EOBs) are prepared after final claim processing. WIS applies the highest standards to the claims adjudication process. The claims administration procedures comply with the California required standards, the most rigorous in the U.S. All claims are processed within five days from the date of receipt of the proof of loss.
- Quality Control.
WIS applies quality reviews to all claims processed. A statistically significant percentage of claims are audited each week. Deviations are discussed with claim examiners. Corrections are made, as needed.
- Reporting.
A prerequisite to managing health care benefits is a thorough understanding of the cost components that comprise the aggregate expenses. This requires details of the frequency of service and average cost per service for each benefit. Based on the insurance company's and the client's needs, WIS generates required customized monthly reports depicting various aspects of the plan.
- Medical Assistance.
WIS contracts with appropriate providers of medical assistance services. WIS cooperates with this provider to assure a smooth administration of all claims. It also audits the services of these providers.
- Accounting.
WIS performs all banking arrangements, account reconciliations, and monthly financial reporting for the administered plans. It establishes trust accounts, collects premium, transfers premium to the insurance company, distributes commissions and administrative fees, prepares refunds, and provides all necessary claims payments, and submits transaction histories to the insurance company. It also provides the many different management reports required by the insurance company and the client. These reports include premium and loss triangles, current enrollment, monthly claim summaries, loss ratio reports, pended claim reports, and many others. Ad hoc reports are available upon request.
- Management Information Systems.
This health insurance administration system provides complete on-line adjudication, letter requests, a wide range of statistical reports, as well as accounting and billing functions. WIS uses the internet as an interactive network with clients and insurance companies.
